Facilities Management Update

Planning work continues on facilities improvements, with the primary focus on the indoor courts. The key objectives are resurfacing the courts and transitioning to LED lighting, while securing as much funding as possible from community-based funders.

Before solutions can be finalised, extensive structural analysis is underway. This includes assessing the condition of the existing concrete base, building structure, drainage, and geological surroundings. As many members are aware, there is separation occurring in the concrete base, particularly on courts 8–10. Current advice suggests this issue may be repairable rather than requiring a full replacement, which would be a significant and costly undertaking.

Good progress has been made over recent weeks and months, including meetings with a range of specialists to ensure a full understanding of the situation. In the meantime, roof repairs completed prior to Christmas have significantly reduced some of the main leaks. Further roof and drainage-related work is being considered, along with minor repairs or replacements to existing lighting where fluorescent tubes have failed.

A funding application for interim maintenance work has recently been submitted, and we expect to receive an outcome within the next few weeks.

Pro Shop Update

If you haven’t visited the Pro Shop recently, you may have missed some new arrivals, including the Wilson Pro Staff 97 Classic, available in 315g and 290g weights. A demo racket is available for members who wish to try before purchasing.

Over the coming months, the new Head Boom and Wilson Blade models will also be arriving in store. Please remember that if you find any Pro Shop products at a lower price elsewhere in New Zealand, we will match it. We are also happy to order in Head or Wilson products for members if they are not currently in stock.

From today, older model rackets and bags will be on sale both in-store and online.

Share the Love of Tennis – PiFT at BHBTC

At Blockhouse Bay Tennis Club, we are encouraging all players to take part in Pay it Forward Tennis (PiFT) and share the love of the game.

PiFT is about kindness, connection, community, and supporting each other on court. From a Caro Bowl player hitting with a First Grade player, to an Orange Stage player rallying with a Red Stage beginner, PiFT is open to everyone.

It can be as simple as:

Organising a 30–60 minute hit with someone new

Noticing a beginner who may need encouragement

Offering your time, support, and a few rallies

No coaching is required — just tennis, aroha, and community. Let’s lift each other up, strengthen our connections, and continue to grow the game together.

Blockhouse Bay Tennis Club – NZ Masters Nationals Performances

Blockhouse Bay Tennis Club was proudly represented at the recent NZ Masters Tennis Nationals, with a strong contingent of members competing across multiple events and age groups. The club extends its congratulations to Jeremy Seales, John Lawrence, Wayne Molloy, John Cook, Pranil Ranchhod, Tehani Amarasekera, Jane Ioaba, and Jeanette Elley for their commitment, competitiveness, and outstanding sportsmanship on the national stage.

A very special mention goes to Jeremy Seales, who delivered an exceptional performance, claiming an incredible three gold medals across his events. This outstanding achievement places Jeremy among an elite group of just four players nationwide to secure three gold medals at this year’s Championships — a remarkable result and a proud moment for both Jeremy and the club.

Make sure you give him a shout-out when you see him around the club — his mates have already upgraded his nickname to “TC” (Triple Champion). He even turned up to the group golf game proudly wearing all three medals… so as you can imagine, it’s shaping up to be a very long year for his friends! 😂

The club commends all participating members for representing Blockhouse Bay Tennis Club with distinction and for contributing to the strong presence of our club at national-level competition. Their efforts continue to highlight the depth, experience, and passion within our Masters community.
